Ocean Jasper is known by many names – Cellular Jasper, Ocean Orbicular Jasper, and Atlantis Stone. It has been documented that ocean jasper was found in the early 1920s. However, it was lost to the world for about 75 years. In 1997, the intrepid Paul Obenich rediscovered ocean jasper along the coasts of Madagascar. Ocean jasper is one of the many varieties of jasper. It is a member of the quartz family. Due to its high silica content, the specs of shimmering druzy quartz are often found in ocean jasper. It is generally found in colours like white, green, and brown. It’s rare to find ocean jasper in colours like blue, black, red, orange, yellow, pink, and grey.
Ocean jasper has intricate patterning, which can be seen in the crystal. This includes orb-like shapes, with strips of colour and other patterns, which is why it is also known as orbicular ocean jasper. If we look deeply at the name Ocean Jasper, we will find that it is derived from a combination of French and Latin words for speckled or spotted stone. It has “ocean” in its name because it is said that ocean jasper channels the power of the oceans and the lunar cycle of the tides. It is linked to emotional stability and supplies the wearer with calm, uplifting energy in testing times. It is also said that this stone helps communicate clearly, enhancing self-insight and self-confidence. Crystal healing lore links it to the lost city of Atlantis, and this is why it is also known as the Atlantis stone. Ocean jasper heals a lot of physical ailments, like - eczema, tumours, body odour, oral infections, sleeplessness, hallucinations, PMS, depression, anxiety, bloating, and infertility.
This crystal resonates with throat chakra, heart chakra and solar plexus chakra. It assists in compassionate communications of the throat chakra. It eliminates negative feelings that weigh down the heart, bringing joy inside one’s heart, and this aids the heart chakra. It also supports the solar plexus chakra by strengthening the wearer’s confidence. In order for you to clean your piece of ocean jasper and renew its energy, soak it in a glass bowl of sea salt water, and leave it overnight. In the morning, rinse off the salt with cool, running water. As an alternative, you can leave your ocean jasper jewelry buried in dry salt for a week before rinsing it cautiously.
Ocean jasper is a type of chalcedony. This multi-coloured stone combines a potent cocktail of minerals that evolved from the lava steam of volcanoes. It is formed via precipitation of silica. When lava cools off over this mineral, tiny spheres of Ocean Jasper crystals are created. Rananjay Exports uses top-notch Ocean Jasper pieces in their jewellery, like Ocean Jasper pendants, Ocean Jasper necklaces, Ocean Jasper bracelets, Ocean Jasper earrings, and Ocean Jasper rings. If you end up buying a piece of Ocean Jasper jewelry, here are tips to check if it is real: scratch the stone with a piece of glass. If it ends up developing scratches, it is not genuine Jasper. This is because Ocean Jasper rates seven on the Mohs scale of hardness, and it’s pretty hard. You can identify a piece of ocean jasper gemstone by its patterned eyes, stripes, orbs, and the angles at which it reflects light. The only source of ocean jasper is the cliffs of the north-eastern Madagascan coast. You can reach there by boat during low tide only.
In 2006, all the mining operations of ocean jasper were called off to a halt as the area got depleted. This is why the circulation of ocean jasper worldwide is significantly less. Unless the mining in Madagascar reopens or some other source is found, the supply of this gemstone will be limited. Thus, ocean jaspers are pretty rare. In comparison to the other varieties of jasper, ocean jaspers are relatively expensive because of their rareness. The pieces of this crystal which are richly coloured and intricately patterned, are priced higher. If you talk about wearability, Ocean Jasper is safe for daily wear. It does contain minute traces of arsenic, and the arsenic content is very negligible for you to be cautious of it.
