Sterling Opal is a synthetic opal, also known as Monarch Opal. It is a new lab-cultured variety of opals that has both the characteristic traits – the distinctiveness of genuine opal and the beautiful play of colors that natural opals show. Sterling opal is affordable and economically priced. This opal is formed via Zachary Process, named after the person who invented it, James Zachary. James Zachary was an electrical engineer and inventor who developed this process in the early 1980s. Initially, the Zachary Process was developed to improve the quality of turquoise. In the later years, James Zachary set out to create lab-cultured opals via this process.
Before the discovery of the Zachary Process for creating lab-cultured opals, precursor lab-created opals had consistent domain and color. The consistency in color was created via the use of dyes. Although these lab-cultured opals were created in many colors, these pieces of opals never showed much play of colors since the color in them was produced through dyes. Sterling opals created via the Zachary Process are special, the reason being that this process does not use dye; rather, this process uses nano-silica in specific molds. The color in sterling opal is seen due to Bragg diffraction of the visible spectrum of light, which is the same as in the case of natural opal.
Do you want to know the reason why sterling opal is so affordable? Well, the best part of sterling opal is that although it is created in large batches that look similar, each piece of opal (when cut) looks unique in its own way. The opals are generally grown in lots of 4.5 kilos (approx.) in 1½” x 2½” squares. The unique-looking sterling opal with an extremely beautiful play of colors is different from all the other lab-grown opals which are not made through the Zachary Process. Sterling opal jewelry at Rananjay Exports has flashes of the glittering green rainbow with hints of white, pink, and blue colors. It does not matter which sterling opal jewelry you wear – whether it is a sterling opal ring, sterling opal earring, or sterling opal pendant – it is said to become the center of attention when you go out wearing it at parties, family reunions, and other functions.
Sterling opals are predominantly green. They show unique patterns in the form of snakeskin or honeycombs, with black potch lines. The hardness of sterling opal is similar to that of naturally occurring opal. One must note that there is a huge difference between synthetic opals and imitation opals. Synthetic opals are replicas, having the same chemical composition, amorphous structure, and gemological properties as natural opals. Imitation opals, on the other hand, mimic the look of an opal. An example of imitation opal is Slocum stone which is glass made of tiny filaments inside.
Because the composition of sterling opal is similar to that of natural opals, sterling opal jewelry has some healing benefits as well. Sterling opal is able to provide emotional support to the wearer. You will be able to handle your emotions gracefully, making you emotionally strong and helping you in balancing your feelings. Sterling opal jewelry also helps its wearer to rejuvenate himself. It enables you to think faster and come up with better ideas and more creative ways of performing your tasks. Lastly, it opens up and stimulates the heart chakra, increasing the feelings of unconditional love, kindness, compassion, and joy. An awakened heart chakra helps the individual to love others as well as himself.
